Reuse Cafe

We all have a role to play in supporting a more sustainable future. Being mindful of our consumption habits and finding ways to breathe new life into existing items is a great way to take small, but meaningful steps towards this goal.

Many items we throw away can be repaired or upcycled to extend their life and keep them out of the landfill.

GIVE OLD ITEMS NEW LIFE AT A REUSE CAFE

The University Neighbourhood Association (UNA) and UBC Inspired are celebrating circular economy with our first-ever Reuse Cafe! Join us April 26 at the Wesbrook Community Centre Social room from 10-3 for Earth-day inspired activities, including:

  • Mend before you Spend: Have an item of clothing that’s in need of a little TLC? Instead of tossing those holey socks or torn t-shirt and buying new ones, bring them by and learn simple sewing repairs that will keep your clothes out of the landfill and extend their life!
  • Get Ready to Ride: Bring your bike or mobility device by for quick tune-ups from our friends at the Bike Kitchen to keep them in tip top shape (just in time for the nice spring weather)!
  • Breathe new life into old textiles with Community Fabric: Bring an old t-shirt or item of clothing and contribute to a community weaving project, or create your own to take home!
  • Plant it Forward: Looking for a way to reduce food waste? Start small, by planting some herbs to take home!

And don’t forget to bring your reusable mug for free coffee throughout the day!

Together, we can support the Neighbourhood Climate Action Plan and transition towards a zero-waste community by creating opportunities for residents to share, reuse, and repair, supporting the circular economy.

Have an idea for future repair cafes? Be sure to share them with us at info.inspired@ubc.ca.
